How a Probus Club works?
Meetings:
A Club organises its meetings as follows :
Usually there are fortnightly meetings at midday or in the evening with a meal followed by some or all of the following activities:
* The President gives information about recent events and future activities.
* Everyone in turn gives some news of general interest - for example: recent trips, family events, voluntary activities, lectures, interesting books and films, etcÉ
* A talk is given by a member or an invited guest, for example: life in jail, drugs, euthanasia and so on.
* A discussion.
If a subject is of interest to wives, they may be invited
After each meeting, a report is given to all members. This keeps the absentee members informed.
Visits:
Once every six months, a day out is organised to a place of interest e.g., a nuclear plant, a car factory, a museum, etcÉ
On occasions, short trips of a few days are arranged, for example: to Paris, the Belgian Ardennes, the Cotentin, the Morvan, the Alsace, etcÉ
Wives are invited and colleagues from other Probus Club may be invited.
Twinning:
Some Clubs are twinned with a foreign Club. This provides opportunities to travel and welcome members from abroad or their grandchildren.
It is possible to invite the members of a twinned Club to join some trips.
How much does it cost to be a Probus Club member?
The meals are usually in the same restaurant and consequently are not expensive (no more than 20Û).
Annual fees: In order to cover administration expenses and the cost of lectures, annual fees of about 40 Û are required.
